Evocation [Light]
Level: Bard 5, Cleric 5, Druid 5, Sorcerer 5, Wizard 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Object touched
Duration: 10 minutes/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
When cast upon an object, this spell channels the light of the noonday sun. The target object carries an intense brightness about it; this light is so pure and powerful that it is treated as natural sunlight.
The object touched sheds the bright light of day in a 60-foot radius, and dim light for an additional 60 feet beyond that.
Creatures that take penalties in bright light (such as orcs), or have specific vulnerabilities to sunlight (such as vampires), suffer the full effects when within 60 feet of the object shedding the light. Thus, for example, a creature posessing daylight powerlessness is affected if within 60 feet of the object shedding the light.
Sunlight brought into an area of magical darkness overpowers and dispels the magical darkness, while still continuing to emanate its light, if the darkness effect is of an equal or lower level. If the darkness effect is of a higher level, the light from this spell is temporarily negated, allowing the prevailing light conditions to exist in the overlapping area of effect.
Sunlight counters or dispels any spell with darkness descriptor of equal or lower level.
Note: The original printing of this spell assigns it to Paladin level 5, which is impossible as Paladins can only cast up to 4th level.
